Introduction
Mt Carmel Christian School commenced in 1981 in Yackandandah and relocated to the present 6.5 hectare site on Kinchington Road, Leneva, in 1997. The magnificent property comprising purpose built, architect designed facilities, an oval and basketball/netball courts, is situated on the outskirts of Wodonga. With a beautiful rural outlook, it is located just 4 km south of the Wodonga Shopping centre just off the Beechworth road.
Governance
The registered authority for Mount Carmel Christian School is the Mount Carmel Christian School Cooperative Ltd. The Cooperative has existed since 1981 when the school first opened in Yackandandah, in Victoria. The current Chairman of the Board, Mr Stephen McIntosh, started the school way back in 1980 with his wife Anna. The board meets regularly to maintain oversight of the school and its operations.
Goals
Mt Carmel Christian School is a non-denominational school and has been established to support parents in the education of their children, and give parents a school where they can be confident their children learn and receive a balanced Christian Education.
Mt Carmel is staffed by a team of highly qualified and experienced teachers, who, as committed Christians, approach their task with dedication, seeking the highest in academic achievement and personal growth for their students.
Mount Carmel seeks to foster an environment and a program which:
1.encourages children to see life from God’s point of view,
2.effectively equips children to confront a changing world of uncertain values,
3.actively encourages students to be confident and purposeful,
4.encourages students to strive for excellence,
5.allows children to progress at their own rate in the important areas of numeracy and literacy;
6.has a truly personalised education program which takes into account the level the child has reached in numeracy and literacy and the gifts and talents of each child;
7.assists parents in the education of their children rather than taking over from the parent. Mt Carmel supports the family home and Christian family values and morality;
8. and instills in students a commitment to elected government, the rule of law, equal rights for all, freedom of religion, freedom of speech and association and the values of opennessi and tolerance2.

1. openness - a willingness to engage in frank and communicative discussion that may involve inquiry or criticism but does not involve deception or concealment.
2. tolerance - to allow the existence or occurrence without interference, of opinions or behaviour that one does not agree with, without necessarily compromising one’s own position on those matters.
